BREAKING: Pelosi Responds to Trump Admin’s Refusal to Cooperate with Impeachment Probe

Nancy Pelosi

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday evening responded to the Trump Administration’s refusal to cooperate with her Soviet-style impeachment show trial.
“For a while, the President has tried to normalize lawlessness. Now, he is trying to make lawlessness a virtue,” Pelosi said.

“The White House letter is only the latest attempt to cover up his betrayal of our democracy, and to insist that the President is above the law,” she added. “The White House should be warned that continued efforts to hide the truth of the President’s abuse of power from the American people will be regarded as further evidence of obstruction.”

“Mr. President, you are not above the law. You will be held accountable,” Pelosi concluded in her statement.

The White House on Tuesday formally told Speaker Pelosi and three other committee chairs to pound sand, calling their impeachment efforts “illegitimate” and “dangerous,” prompting a standoff with Congress.
White House Counsel Pat Cipollone wrote a blistering 8-page letter to Speaker Pelosi and Dem chairs on three key committees, Schiff, Cummings and Engel, letting them know their impeachment inquiry “lacks any legitimate constitutional foundation,” and violates Trump’s due process rights.

Cipollone also called the Democrats’ impeachment inquiry a partisan effort “to overturn the results of the 2016 election” of President Donald Trump.
“Your unprecedented actions have left the president with no choice,” said the letter signed by Pat Cippolone. “In order to fulfill his duties to the American people, the Constitution, the Executive Branch, and all future occupants of the Office of the presidency, President Trump and his administration cannot participate in your partisan and unconstitutional inquiry under these circumstances.”
“Given that your inquiry lacks any legitimate constitutional foundation, any pretense of fairness, or even the most elementary due process protections, the executive branch cannot be expected to participate in it,” Cipollone wrote.

Pelosi is trying to push forward with impeachment without a full vote so she doesn’t expose vulnerable, red-state Democrats who would likely lose their seats in 2020 if they went on the record supporting impeaching Trump.
Make no mistake, Pelosi and the Dems will file articles of impeachment citing “Obstruction/Contempt of Congress” and “abuse of power” just as she hinted in Tuesday evening’s statement.
