8 Natural Remedies for Dry Eyes

Sometimes dry eyes are amazingly easy to fix. For instance, blinking regularly can fix the problem, especially for people who stare at screens all day. Blinking reapplies a wet surface on your eyes, which prevents dryness.
However, blinking may not always do the trick, because eye dryness occurs due to several reasons. You may experience dryness due to a medical condition, environmental factors such as wind, side effects of medication or aging.
It’s also important to know that dry eyes occur when tears evaporate too quickly or if your eyes don’t produce enough tears. You may need to see a doctor if your eyes produce too few tears, but if your tears are evaporating quickly, the natural remedies below may fix the problem.

1. STAY PROPERLY HYDRATED

Water is undeniably the most important drink. Every body part, including your eyes, needs water to function optimally.
Drinking enough water allows the lacrimal gland to produce enough tears. Drink at least two liters of water a day, and eat foods with high water content, such as watermelon, pineapples and cucumbers.

2. TRY WARM COMPRESSES

Warm compresses are a brilliant solution if your eyelids are inflamed. Inflamed eyelids may clog oil-producing glands, which leads to dryness.
Simply soak a clean towel in warm water, and then press it over your closed eyes. Apply gentle pressure for at least a minute. Feel free to use this remedy every day to reduce inflammation and keep your eyes wet.

3. INCREASE YOUR INTAKE OF OMEGA 3S

Tears are a combination of water, mucus and oil. Increasing your intake of omega 3s can stimulate the production of oil that’s essential for the release of tears, according to research.
Get omega 3s from fatty fish such as mackerel, tuna, and sardines. Vegans can plenty of omega 3s from excellent sources, such as flaxseeds and walnuts.

4. WEAR WRAPAROUND SUNGLASSES

Wind may be making your tears evaporate fast if you spend time outdoors. You may struggle with the same problem if you’re regularly exposed to fans, air conditioners and hair dryers.
Wraparound sunglasses will easily block the wind. They’ll also create moisture for your eyes, keeping them wet.

Tobacco smoke, even second-hand smoke, irritates the eyes. In fact, reports show that smoking doubles the risk of dry eyes.

6. GET ENOUGH VITAMIN A

You may know that vitamin A is vital for eye health. Deficiency can have serious side effects, such as dry eyes, vision loss, corneal ulcers, blindness and light sensitivity.
Avoid these devastating effects by getting enough vitamin A from green leafy vegetables, fruits and eggs.

7. LIGHT THERAPY AND EYELID MASSAGE

This technique can offer mind-blowing benefits if you have severe dry eyes. According to one study, using light therapy followed by a massage of the eyelids helped reduce symptoms of severe dry eyes in 87 percent of the participants.

8. DO VIGOROUS WORKOUTS

I’m not trying to trick you to exercise. Working out can actually fix dry eyes because it improves circulation, which consequently promotes the release of oils in the eyes.
