Warren: Ocasio-Cortez’s $93 Trillion ‘Green New Deal’ Does Not ‘Go Far Enough’

Democrat presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren declared on Thursday night that socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) $93 trillion “Green New Deal” does not go “far enough.”
Warren, who made the remark during a CNN town hall event, said, “What I want to see us do is get off an oil economy, and not only for ourselves, but for the rest of the world.”
“Uh, I want to see us move entirely to green, and let me say on this, I not only support a Green New Deal, I don’t think it goes far enough,” Warren continued. “I also have a blue new deal cause we have got to be thinking about our oceans as well that we need to protect.”
WATCH:
An in depth analysis from the American Action Forum estimated that the far-left Green New Deal could cost up to $93 trillion, a figure that would bankrupt the United States.
“The Green New Deal is clearly very expensive,” the analysis concluded. “Its further expansion of the federal government’s role in some of the most basic decisions of daily life, however, would likely have a more lasting and damaging impact than its enormous price tag.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) far-left former chief-of-staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, admitted in a Washington Post interview last year that the Green New Deal was created to implement socialism.
The Post noted that the admission came during an exchange between Chakrabarti and Sam Ricketts, climate director for Washington Gov. Jay Inslee (D), who ran a failed presidential bid last year. The Post reports [emphasis added]:
Chakrabarti had an unexpected disclosure. “The interesting thing about the Green New Deal,” he said, “is it wasn’t originally a climate thing at all.” Ricketts greeted this startling notion with an attentive poker face. “Do you guys think of it as a climate thing?” Chakrabarti continued. “Because we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing.”
Tom J. Donohue, CEO of the United States Chamber of Commerce, wrote last year that the Green New Deal was a trojan horse designed to implement socialism:
Climate change is real and deserves our attention. But not every policy to address it can be taken seriously. Take, for example, the Green New Deal – a sweeping proposal to “save our planet” that reads more like a parody of the progressive agenda. No laughing matter, however, is the proposal’s ultimate objective: to give government unprecedented power over people’s lives and our entire economy. …
…Other aspects of the Green New Deal seem wildly out of place for an environmental resolution. Consider the promise of massive new entitlement programs that could only be achieved through a radical redistribution of wealth. Here, the proposal shows its true colors. This is not some run-of-the-mill progressive policy – it is a Trojan Horse for socialism.
The Green New Deal aims to upend our entire economic system, wresting consumer choice from everyday Americans and putting personal decisions – from the food we eat to the cars we drive – in the hands of an unelected elite. …
“Warren is a hard-left progressive who often takes the most left-wing stance possible on any given legal or public policy issue. Similar to Bernie Sanders, Warren is well known for her populist ‘class warfare’-style rhetoric that rhetorically and substantively pits the working and middle classes against the wealthy,” The Daily Wire reported last year. “She has generally supported anti-capitalistic and anti-growth economic policies, heavy-handed government regulation over the private economy, robust labor unions, and the Nordic model of a sprawling welfare state. Along with Sanders, Warren’s views on economics and the proper size and scope of government place her firmly on the leftward flank of the 2020 Democratic Party presidential candidate field.”
