Is the CNN Cuomo love-in over? Host Jake Tapper SLAMS the NY Governor for 'offensive' COVID 'victory lap' and self-congratulatory appearance on Jimmy Fallon despite 32,000 New Yorkers dying ... but what will brother and colleague Chris say?

CNN's Jake Tapper called out 'crowing' New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for taking a self-congratulatory 'victory lap' and boasting about the state's handling of the pandemic, even as the virus has claimed over 32,000 lives.
Tapper slammed the Governor for appearing on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Monday evening where he touted how New York has 'tamed the beast' in bringing the virus under control.
At his daily coronavirus presser Cuomo boasted that people would be talking about how New York curbed the virus 'for decades to come'.
'New York’s Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo seems to be on something of a victory tour congratulating himself and the state for defeating the virus,' Tapper said Tuesday on CNN.

Tapper brought onto the show CNN's Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta who also bashed Cuomo's 'victory lap' saying: 'I think if anything what this virus has taught us, we need a significant amount of humility'

He brought up how Cuomo is selling a poster that depicts New York getting over a mountain to bring down the coronavirus infection curve over the course of '111 days of hell.' He said: 'There are no illustrations, however, of the more than 32,000 dead New Yorkers, the highest death toll by far of any state'

Tapper brought onto the show CNN's Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta who also bashed Cuomo for his stance on Tuesday.
'I’m a little surprised by that poster because I think if anything what this virus has taught us, we need a significant amount of humility,' Gupta said.
'This virus surprises us over and over again. There’s no part of the country that’s not vulnerable. And I think we’ve learned that victory laps are not the thing to be doing,' he added.

On Monday night Cuomo appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon via Zoom where he said: 'We went through hell and back…We went from being the worst infection rate in the country, we now have the best infection rate.'
'We’re just worried the infections are going to come from the other states now, back to New York, and that would be a tragedy,' Cuomo said on rising cases of infections coming from states like Florida, Arizona and California.
The Governor even joked about his dating life saying: 'I'm at phase zero on dating...I think New York will be fully reopened before I get out of phase zero on dating.'
Tapper blasted Cuomo on Twitter on Tuesday following his TV appearance.
'NY state has lost more than 32,000 lives to COVID-19. So while it's great that the numbers have gone down, it's perplexing to see crowing, Cuomo going on Fallon, etc.'

'No other state has lost as many lives, not even close. New Jersey is next with 17,000+,' he added.
Tapper noted that while the pandemic has been a challenge for leaders across the country, 'New York’s leaders do not have a success story to tell.'
'It’s been about missteps and late actions,' Tapper said in his scalding rebuke.
Tapper cited how the New York government’s missteps and lack of aggressive response led the virus to decimate the city and claim the lives of thousands of lives in hard-hit nursing homes.
'There are many New York citizens put off by the crowing and the poster sales. It's great that the number have gone down, and I hope to God they stay there. But New York's leaders were late and made many mistakes; it's been an absolute tragedy,' Tapper added in his castigating Twitter rant.
Despite bringing down the infection curve, the virus is far from gone.
As of Tuesday there are over 403,000 cases of the virus and over 32,000 deaths in New York.
