A 44-year-old Indiana man has drowned in Lake Michigan while trying to save his two children, authorities said.
Four people were seen struggling in the lake about 8pm Thursday at Lions Park Beach in southwestern Michigan's St. Joseph, police said.
The man's children, ages 17 and 12, were swept away after becoming caught in an undertow and had to be rescued by a St. Joseph reserve officer, Everett Gaston.

Their father was pulled from the water, but later was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Police are not releasing the name of the victim until all family members are notified.
He was from Lakeville, Indiana, south of South Bend.
In a separate incident on Thursday evening on the same lake, a man on a surfboard, Fabian Weber, was able to rescue the two other people, Meghan Lynch and Vincent Ball by pulling them onto his board.
'Last night... the rip current, undertow was severe,' Heit said to the South Bend Tribune.
It's the second drowning at Lions Park Beach this month.
An Illinois woman drowned a couple of weeks ago after she and her sister were caught up in heavy surf.
The National Weather Service of Northern Indiana had issued a high swim risk warning on Thursday for southeastern Michigan beaches.
The weather service says there is a moderate risk for dangerous swimming conditions on Friday.
