This Popular Frozen Food Sold Nationwide Is Being Recalled

If your freezer stores frozen shrimp purchased in the last several months, take note. After recent reports of Salmonella and Listeria outbreaks among various food products, another case of food recall due to Salmonella has been reported by the FDA.

The bacteria has been found on various sizes of frozen cooked, peeled, and deveined shrimp sold in the U.S. by Kader Exports.

The shrimp were sold under several brand names—Aqua Star Reserve, Censea, Fresh Market, Kirkland, Tops, Unistar, Wellsley Farms—in 1lb, 1.5lb., and 2lb. bags between February and mid-May of this year.

Luckily, no cases of illness have been reported from this contamination. The company is recalling these products out of an abundance of caution.

According to the FDA, Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause a serious and sometimes fatal infection, especially in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people that have been infected usually experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. More serious complications are usually rare.
