Nine-year-old girl dies two weeks after she was shot in the head by stray bullet while jumping on a TRAMPOLINE in latest case of child killed by gunfire in Minneapolis

A young girl who was shot in the head while playing with other children in a Minneapolis neighborhood has died from her injury.

Trinity Ottoson-Smith, 9, was struck by a stray bullet while bouncing on a trampoline  in the Jordan neighborhood on Saturday, May 15.

The shooter was in a red four-door Ford vehicle that drove away after firing at a residence, police said.

'For the last 12 days, she fought for her life and today that fight ended,' Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder said.

'At 4:04 pm she was pronounced deceased at the hospital.'

After being hit in the head at the property in the 2200 block of Ilion Avenue North, Trinity was rushed to North Memorial Health Hospital where she remained in a critical condition for just under two weeks, before succumbing to her injuries,

Elder said of the incident: 'Our officers who showed up at this scene with the 9-year-old girl critically injured with a gunshot to her head knowingly violated policy by picking this girl up, running her to the squad, and taking her to the hospital, doing what they could to save her life.

'That's who the Minneapolis Police Department is,'

Trinity Ottoson-Smith was one of three children who were hit by gunfire in Minneapolis over the past three weeks.

Ten-year-old LaDavionne Garrett Jr. was shot in the head April 30 as he sat in the backseat of his parents' car.

Aniya Allen, 6, was shot dead by a stray bullet in Minneapolis on May 17.

In a bitter irony, 53-year-old KG Wilson is a peace activist who is well known locally and has devoted his life to supporting the families of victims of violence.

What's more, he told DailyMail.com, he had 'warned and warned' that it was only a matter of time before innocent children were caught in the crossfire of the city's soaring gun violence.

Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com he said: 'I warned about this. When you hear about a shooting and people say there were children there and they could almost have hit kids, that's letting you know what's coming.

'I continued to warn that this was going to come but I never would have thought in my wildest dreams it would be my six-year-old granddaughter.'

Wilson spoke with DailyMail.com just ten days after his granddaughter Aniya Allen was shot. He relived the horror of learning of her death, his struggle to accept that she is gone, and his determination to bring her killer to justice.
