REPORT: Pilot, Flights Attendants Say 9/11 Hijackers Targeted Fifth Plane

A pilot and flight attendants on a United 767 scheduled to take off from JFK Airport in New York City could have been targeted by 9/11 hijackers, TMZ reports.

United 23 was supposed to leave JFK for Los Angeles at 9:00 a.m. on 9/11, but suspicious activity was apparent from the beginning, sources told TMZ. Four passengers in first class drew suspicion immediately, including a man who was disguised as a woman. The passengers did not eat meat, leading to an argument with the first class flight attendant.

“We do not want to eat. We don’t need food. We want to take off … We just want to go,” one of the passengers said. Two other passengers in business class also drew suspicion from flight attendants.

The plane moved toward the runway and was preparing to take off when planes struck the World Trade Center, per TMZ. The airport shut down due to the attack, forcing United to cancel the flight and deplane all passengers.

Twenty minutes after the plane was emptied and locked down, witnesses spotted two uniformed people running around in United 23’s passenger cabin, the outlet reported. Per TMZ, the pilot believes the two individuals were tasked with removing weapons and other incriminating evidence. It’s unclear what they retrieved from United 23.

Box cutters were placed in the first-class seat pockets of the plane parked next to United 23, and United 23’s pilot reportedly believes they were intended for his plane but were placed on the other aircraft by mistake, according to TMZ.

The FBI interviewed the pilot and flight attendants later on 9/11 to see if they could identify the four passengers. TMZ also interviewed the United dispatcher, a member of the 9/11 commission and other sources.

TMZ’s documentary, “TMZ Investigates: 9/11: The Fifth Plane,” is set to premier Monday, March 20 at 9:00 p.m. on Fox.
