‘Delinquent’: Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Foundation No Longer Allowed To Raise Money

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Archwell foundation must stop spending money — and the non-profit is no longer allowed to raise money — after being found “delinquent.

In a letter from the California Registry of Charities and Fundraisers, the Attorney General of the state Rob Bonta wrote that, Archwell is “listed as delinquent with the Registry of Charities and Fundraisers for failing to submit required annual report(s) and/or renewal fees,” People magazinereported.

“An organization that is listed as delinquent is not in good standing and is prohibited from engaging in conduct for which registration is required, including soliciting or disbursing charitable funds,” the letter added.

“The organization may also be subject to penalties and its registration may be suspended or revoked by the Registry,” it continued. “Once you submit the delinquent record(s), you will be notified of the amount of any late fees that are owed.”

A source with the royal couple’s charity told the outlet that the foundation filed on time but the CA registry never got the check that was sent.

Once the foundation became aware of its “deliquent” status a new check was sent by mail, the source added. The source also said Markle and Harry’s foundation expects the whole matter to be resolved soon which — will should be reflected in records in the next week.

In 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced the foundation with a name inspired by their first child’s, Prince Archie of Sussex. The announcement came shortly after the couple’s decision to step down from their royal roles before eventually moving to southern California, where they raise their two kids, Archie and Princess Lilibet of Sussex.

A message on the foundation’s website said its ““mission is simple: show up, do good. We meet the moment by showing up, taking action and using our unparalleled spotlight to uplift and unite communities — local and global — through acts of service and compassion.”

In a 2021 summary for the initial registration of the Archewell Foundation in CA it read that the charity is “an impact-driven nonprofit created by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Archewell Foundation’s core purpose is to uplift and unite communities — local and global, online and offline — one act of compassion at a time,” the outlet noted.

“Archewell Foundation believes that compassion is the defining cultural force of the 21st century and, through its work, Archewell Foundation supports a growing community of partner organizations fueling systematic cultural change,” it added. “Archewell Foundation listens to people and their communities, helps them to tell their stories, puts real action behind its words, and spotlights a new generation of leadership.”
